How to Spot Fake Forex Signals: 12 Warning Signs and a 10-Minute Test

How to spot fake forex signals: the warning signs, how signal services hide losses, and a simple test to calculate any provider's real result before you pay.

Forex signal services range from honest analysts sharing their trades to operations that exist only to sell subscriptions, earn broker commissions or recruit people into schemes. From the outside they can look identical: confident posts, green screenshots and impressive win rates. This guide shows how to tell them apart.

Twelve warning signs

  1. Guaranteed or fixed returns. No honest provider can promise a monthly percentage. Markets do not pay on schedule.
  2. Win rates near 100 percent. Every real strategy has losing streaks. A record without them is incomplete or invented.
  3. Wins counted at the first target. If a trade that hit TP1 and then the stop is counted as a win, the win rate is meaningless. See how multiple take profits hide losses.
  4. No losses published. Losing trades disappear, are deleted from the channel, or are described as "break even".
  5. Screenshots instead of a full history. Screenshots are easy to edit and easy to select.
  6. No stop loss on signals, or stops added after the fact.
  7. Vague entries such as "buy gold now" with no price, so any result can be claimed.
  8. Pressure and urgency: countdowns, "last 5 places", VIP upsells after every win.
  9. Recruitment rewards bigger than anything the trading produces.
  10. A request to deposit with a particular broker, especially one you cannot verify with a regulator, or to send money to the provider directly.
  11. Anonymous operators with stock photos, no company name and no address.
  12. Critical questions deleted and members removed for asking about losses.

The 10-minute test

Before paying for any signal service, take its last month of published signals and do this:

  1. Write down every signal: pair, direction, entry, stop and every target.
  2. Look at a chart and record what price actually did after each signal.
  3. Decide one management rule in advance, for example one third closed at each target and the stop moved to entry after TP1.
  4. Calculate the result in R, which is the profit or loss divided by the amount risked, for the whole position.
  5. Subtract a realistic spread.
  6. Add the results and note the worst run of losses.

Compare your number with what the provider claims for the same month. Honest providers come out close. Deceptive ones rarely survive this test.

What honest signal providers do

  • Publish every signal with entry, stop and targets before price reaches them.
  • Publish every outcome, including losses and orders that never filled.
  • Report results in R or pips per whole position, not only win rate.
  • Show the deepest drawdown and say clearly that past results do not guarantee future results.
  • Explain the method in enough detail that you can understand why a trade was taken.

At TebotechSignals we publish every closed signal on a public performance page, and we have corrected our own backtest claims in public when longer testing did not support them. Hold every provider, including us, to that standard.

Special cases

  • Free signal channels usually make money another way: broker referrals, paid upgrades or recruitment. Understand which before you follow them. See free forex signals bots.
  • "100% accurate" signals do not exist. Our article on 100% accurate forex signals explains why the claim itself is the warning.
  • AI-branded signals are not more reliable because of the label. The CFTC has warned that AI cannot predict the future; see AI trading bot scams and the CFTC.

The bottom line

A real signal provider is boring to check: complete history, losses included, results that add up when you calculate them yourself. If checking feels difficult, it is usually because something is being hidden.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if forex signals are fake?

Check for guaranteed returns, near-perfect win rates, missing losses, wins counted at the first target, vague entries and pressure tactics. Then calculate the provider's real result in R from a month of published signals.

What does an honest signal provider publish?

Every signal before price reaches it, every outcome including losses and expired orders, results in R or pips per whole position, and the deepest drawdown.

Are free forex signals fake?

Not necessarily, but free services usually earn money from broker referrals, upgrades or recruitment. Understand the incentive and verify the results yourself.
