Forex Bot Withdrawal Fee Scams: Why Paying the "Release Fee" Never Works

How forex bot and AI trading platforms trap victims with withdrawal fees, taxes and unlock charges, why paying never releases the money, and what to do instead.

Your dashboard shows a healthy profit from the trading bot. You ask to withdraw. Then comes the message: pay a 15 percent tax first, or a "clearance fee", or a deposit to verify your wallet. This is the withdrawal fee scam, and it is the final stage of most fake bot and AI trading platforms.

How the fee cycle works

  1. The balance grows. The platform shows your deposit growing quickly. These numbers are typed in by the operator; usually no trading happens.
  2. You request a withdrawal. Sometimes a small one is paid to build trust.
  3. The first fee. A tax, commission, anti-money-laundering deposit, insurance charge or account upgrade is required before release. It is presented as a percentage of your "profit", so it seems reasonable compared with the balance.
  4. More fees. After you pay, a new problem appears: a currency conversion charge, a "frozen" account, a minimum balance, a penalty for late payment.
  5. Silence. When you stop paying, the account is closed or the website vanishes.

Every payment you make is simply more money taken.

Why paying never works

  • The balance is not real. There is nothing to release.
  • Legitimate brokers deduct fees from your balance. They never ask you to send new money to access your own funds.
  • Taxes are paid to tax authorities, not to a trading platform, and normally after you receive income, not before.
  • Each payment proves you will pay again, so the demands continue.

Common fee names

Withdrawal tax, capital gains tax, clearance fee, release fee, unlock fee, verification deposit, anti-money-laundering deposit, insurance fee, margin top-up, VIP upgrade, wallet activation, blockchain gas fee, and penalties for "irregular trading".

Warning signs before you ever deposit

  • Fixed or guaranteed returns. See high-yield AI trading software red flags.
  • Deposits into the operator's platform or crypto wallet instead of your own regulated broker account.
  • Contact from a stranger on social media, a messaging app or a dating site who steers you to the platform.
  • A platform you cannot find on any regulator's register.
  • A recently registered website.

What to do if you are being asked to pay

  1. Stop. Do not pay anything more.
  2. Save evidence: screenshots of the balance, the fee demands, chats, website address, transaction IDs and wallet addresses.
  3. Contact your bank or card provider right away about earlier payments.
  4. Secure your accounts and revoke any access you gave. See how to revoke trading bot API access.
  5. Report it: in the US to cftc.gov/complaint and ic3.gov; in the UK to Action Fraud and the FCA; in South Africa to the police and the FSCA. See how to report a forex signal scam.
  6. Expect recovery scammers to contact you next, and ignore any upfront-fee offers. See reclaiming funds from unregulated platforms.

Why smart people pay

The sunk cost is powerful: paying a little more to rescue a large balance feels logical. Scammers know this and set each fee just low enough to pay. Recognising the pattern is what breaks it.

Bottom line

If you must send new money to withdraw your own money, the money is not there. Stop paying, report quickly and protect yourself from the next approach. For the full playbook of how these platforms operate, read can't withdraw from a forex bot? and our ebook Signal or Scam?.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I pay a fee to withdraw from a trading platform?

No. Legitimate brokers deduct fees from your balance. A demand for new money before release is a classic scam, and paying leads to more demands.

Do I have to pay tax before withdrawing trading profits?

Not to the platform. Taxes are paid to tax authorities, normally after you receive income. A platform demanding tax upfront is a red flag.

What should I do if a bot platform asks for a release fee?

Stop paying, save evidence, contact your bank, secure your accounts, report to regulators and police, and ignore recovery offers that ask for fees.
